LingMark

Privacy

Last updated: 12 September 2026

The short version: LingMark collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics and no telemetry, and the app makes no network connection of its own. Your notes are files in a folder on your Mac, and they stay there.

What the app stores, and where

  • Your notes and attachments are ordinary files in the vault folder you chose. LingMark reads and writes them there and nowhere else.
  • The vault's bookkeeping lives in a .lingmark folder inside the vault: the vault's name, per-note metadata such as favourites and pins, the attachment settings, the Trash, and a journal that makes a multi-file rename recoverable after a crash.
  • The app's own settings live in your user Library: which vaults you have opened, your theme and preferences, and the list of files opened in the Reader. Nothing in them identifies you.
  • Git credentials, if you sign in to GitHub or add a remote with a token, are kept in the macOS keychain and read from it once per launch.

What reaches the network

Only things you start:

  • Git remotes you add. Fetch, pull and push talk to the remote you named and to no one else.
  • The GitHub sign-in, when you choose Publish to GitHub: the one-time code flow with github.com, and the repository it creates for you.
  • Commit author pictures. Hovering a commit in a repository whose remote is on GitHub asks api.github.com for that commit's author and shows the picture. Once per commit per session, best-effort, and nothing is sent about you.
  • Links you open, which go to your browser.

There is no update check, no crash reporting and no usage statistics. A crash is written to a log file in your user Library and goes nowhere.

Contact Us

The Help › Contact Us… form composes an email to support@hling.app and opens it in your own mail app, so you read every word before it is sent. It includes the app version, your macOS version, the editor style and the theme only if you tick the box, and never anything from your vault: no note contents, no file names, no paths, no counts.

Sync

LingMark 1.0 has no sync service. When one arrives it will be end-to-end encrypted, with a key the server never holds, and this page will describe it before it is offered.

This website

lingmark.hling.app is a static site served by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics script. Your theme choice on this page is remembered in your browser only.
